Chimichanga, Essex (and lots of other UK locations)
A night out on a school night doesn’t happen often, but to honour a special friend leaving my school side for a bit we went rogue. Mexican style. I remember Chimichanga of yesteryear as a deep-fried-loving Mexican-food-offending place. Not now, oh so not now, you done Mexico proud you tasty beast!
The waitress was extremely well-informed about gluten- and dairy-free options and suggested the corn tortilla tostados. Oh. My. Days. Superb with pulled pork, peppers, onions, rice and black beans and salsa (sans cheese and sour cream). The best and most substantial meal out I’ve had in ages and I felt like one of the lads. On another night it would have been cocktails ahoy for 5-7pm happy hour, but this meal of plenty more than sufficed. My gluten-eating amigos loved their enchilada and burritos too.
